One Day Down

Yesterday was our first day and last night was the first real night out. The group of us went out for dinner at a nice Italian restaurant...yeah I know it was totally out of place but API paid for it which was nice. Then we hit the town...in the Irish form of the word. We went to a pub called the Front Door and the atmosphere was wonderful. Everyone was so laid back and friendly and it was nice to just chill with my new friends.
After a while a smaller group went on to another pub, and now I can officially say I have bar hopped. Cool right? While there, I was offered a job and bought a shot. Intense for a first night out, and Kelsey, Tyler and I called it a night around 2. I'm so not used to this whole, go out late and not sleep thing and it's gonna be hard to get used to.
The only kinda sad part of last night was that one of the girls in my group forgot to bring her license with her to Ireland, so she can't get in to any of the bars...WHO DOES THAT????
Anyways I felt bad for her, but what can you do? I think it'll be okay now that she has her NUI i.d.- at least I hope she can get in.
Here's a picture from last night with the smaller group that I think might become my closer friends.
Kate, Katie, Megan, Tyler, Kelsey, Daniel

Today was our first day of orientation for NUI and it was the most boring thing ever. I felt like I was back at St. Mikes and knew everything they had to tell me. But I did hear about one class that I NEED to take. It's called Literacy and Learning in Service Learning....or something like that I don't quite remember. But basically it's the closest I'm gonna get to an Education class here, and it puts me in a classroom once a week to help students with their homework. It's right up my ally and I hope I get in. The only catch is that there's a 30 person cap on the class, but it's only open to American students so that narrowed it down a tiny bit. He said he was going to take the first 30 that applied, so Kate and I raced to fill ours out and ran to find the drop off box. Hopefully we both get it. I'd love it.

I hope that the days keep going like this, and allowing me to have a few hours of down time every day. It's nice to have a break in this whirlwind of a semester.

Waiting for my raincoat,
k
